Ship … The name of the ship that transported the convicts to Port Jackson, Moreton Bay & Hobart Town. Not all Indents survived & some that did survive are in bad condition and therefore a list of convicts was made up from various sources

Master … The Transports Captain or Master
Surgeon … The Transport Surgeon or Surgeon Superintendent
Name … Indicates that the name of the convict & often any alias names used.
Where Tried … Indicates that the place a convict was tried is included
When Tried … Indicates the date or season the convict was tried
Sentence … Indicates the sentence the convict received
Native Place … Indicates that the Native Place of the convict is listed
Age … Indicates that the convicts age is listed
Height … Indicates that the convicts height usually in feet and inches
Complexion … Indicates that the convicts complexion type is listed
Hair colour … Indicates that the convicts hair colour is listed
Eye colour … Indicates that the convicts eye colour is listed
Calling … Indicates the convicts Calling, Trade, or Profession is listed
Crime … Indicates the crime or type of crime is listed
Previous Convictions … Indicates the number and length of previous convictions
Education … Indicates of the convict could Read &/or Write
Religion … Indicates that the convicts religion is listed
Marital Status … Indicates that the convict had been married, single or widowed at the time of trial
Family M/F … Indicates how many children or how many children of each sex the convict had at the time of conviction. In some cases also lists the number of children on board.
How disposed of … Indicates where (district) or to whom Assigned
Other Remarks … This covers a host of very interesting bits of information, such as moles, tattoos, scars, condition of teeth, condition of skin, relatives in colony, character, sickness on voyage, behaviour on voyage etc
TOL / CP / AP … This comprises 3 columns on the earlier Indents and gives the number of the Ticket of Leave &/or Conditional Pardon &/or Absolute Pardon - although they were not always recorded.
Colonial Sentence … Indicates if convict also received a Colonial sentence i.e. another conviction within the colony. Not often recorded
Ticket of - Leave / Exemption … Although many indents have allowed a column for this detail it was not often completed.
Pardons - Absolute/Conditional/Colonial … As above, indicates the number of their Conditional &/or Absolute &/or Colonial Pardon
Certificate of Freedom … As above, gives the number of the Certificate of Freedom
Dead or Left Colony … Indicates of convict died or left colony (not always completed)
Miscellany … This category is not a particular column entry on any Indent. Many Indents, particularly those between 1824 and 1835 have included information between the line entries and include information such as Pardons, Deaths, movements to another colony, colonial crimes, Mother, Father, Brother or Sister already in colony etc.
